Community Employment

People with intellectual and developmental disabilities can be successful in competitive workplaces. Community Employment at BCI helps individuals enter the workforce by providing services and by removing barriers that oftentimes hinder them from finding or keeping a job.

Community Employment is the cornerstone of our mission: promoting social interaction and independence and enriching the community in which we live.

Through unique collaboration with companies in St. Charles County and Lincoln County, Mo., we connect people to supported jobs that draw the same responsibilities, pay, and benefits as non-disabled team members.

Individuals in the Community Employment Services Program are employed by BCI but often work at another business. With a spirit of innovation and a constant focus on long-term goals, we embrace the newest and most innovative methods.

Our team works one-on-one with adults with disabilities and empowers them throughout every stage of the hiring and employment process, from job training and placement to providing ongoing support. This enables us to ensure placements continue to be a good match and meet the needs of both the employee and the business.

Permanent and mutually gratifying employment is the goal!

As a vendor of Vocational Rehabilitation, BCI also offers career development services for those of transition age who want to work more independently in the community. Our support team can assist clients with the following:

  • Resume writing and job applications

  • Interview preparation

  • Career counseling

  • Employee and job development

  • Job placement

  • On-the-job coaching

  • Soft skills training

  • Retention & follow-along services

At BCI, each person receives an individualized plan. We begin with an evaluation of interests and abilities to determine successful career choices.

BCI is dedicated to finding the right career path for each individual, providing a variety of programs tailored to match each interest and ability. BCI’s Community Employment Program began in 2009. Each year, it positively impacts the lives of approximately 100 men and women with disabilities and their families. We serve people with Autism, Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, ADD/ADHD, Epilepsy, and other disabilities.

Our mission is to provide choices along a continuum of employment and training opportunities. In addition to our Community Employment program, BCI offers vocational training for people with disabilities through our Skills Center in St. Peters, as well as Organizational Employment at our packaging facilities in St. Charles and Lincoln Counties.
