About this Opportunity 

Reporting directly to the CEO, the VP of Development will manage and expand all aspects of BCI and The Skills Center development programs in order to effectively support its mission and strategic initiatives. Key components of the development program include: individual giving, corporate sponsorship, planned and major gifts, grants and special events.

Primary Work Location: St. Peters, Missouri


Job Type: Full-Time, Exempt/Salaried, Executive/Supervisory

Duties: 

  • Develop a strategic plan to accomplish financial and corporate reputation targets. 

  • In collaboration with CEO develop strategic Major Gifts/Planned Giving campaign designed to sustain and grow The Skills Center program. 

  • Maintain current grants as well as research additional grant opportunities in the public and private sectors; responsible for the grant content and deadlines; drawing content from the needs of the organization. 

  • Build robust Annual and Corporate giving programs as well as event sponsorship, build new relationships, maintain established relationships 

  • Supervise event staff and lead volunteers

  • Foster an environment that motivates direct reports and team members to maximize their strengths and encourages collaboration and personal growth 

  • Maintain high level of donor stewardship through regular communication and relationship building (Moves Management Process) 

  • Build and manage a portfolio of donors concentrating on donors giving $1000+ 

  • Lead the presentation of proposals to potential donors, lead negotiation process and manage the follow-through, monitoring and ensuring donor satisfaction 

  • Oversee all current special events as well as evaluate potential new ideas  

  • Develop strategy for building a volunteer program that incorporates special events and opportunities at BCI 

  • Work with marketing to act as community liaison and spokesperson for the organization. Schedule and coordinate speaking engagements and on-site tours that will showcase BCI to existing and potential funders as well community and corporate leaders 

  • In collaboration with Marketing, develop collateral materials incorporating giving opportunities specific to each constituent: Corporate, Individuals, Foundation, Planned Giving/Major Gifts. 

  • Manage outside consultant relationships as needed 

  • Develop process for maintaining accurate reporting for tracking and recording of incoming and outgoing funds, including grant spend, in accordance with all ethical, confidential and legal obligations 

  • Maintain donor relationship management platform implementing policy and procedure for all data entry

  • In collaboration with CEO, develop and refine overall policies and procedures for the department 

  • Develop learning/coaching opportunities for team members to become educated and informed of fund development progress toward goals as well as general fundraising theory, practice and trends 

  • Maintain Development budget as outlined by CEO, CFO and BOD

  • Other duties as requested by the CEO 

Required Experience: Minimum five years of experience in fundraising, development, public relations and grant writing in non-profit organizations.


Required Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Communications, Philanthropy, Business or related field, or commensurate experience.
