BCI Celebrates First Anniversary of Thursdays with Abby

August 9 marks the 1st anniversary of “Thursdays with Abby” at Boone Center Inc. (BCI). The weekly video segments began when BCI employee Abby approached Tony Spielberg, CEO, about wanting to add a fun new element to the company’s social media. After some thought, they came up with the idea for Thursdays with Abby.

“Thursdays with Abby was founded when I became frustrated with the lack of voices being heard from the Disability community,” said Spielberg. “Abby’s courage and perseverance is incredible, and she has a tremendous work life balance. Her story needed to be told to inspire others to never give up in realizing their own potential.”

What Abby loves most about doing Thursdays with Abby is the impact it has on people. While walking in the mall one day, a man approached her and started talking about her videos.

“He said, ‘You’re giving a voice to people who don’t have one’, and that statement made a really big impact on me,” said Abby. “It definitely was a big motivator to keep filming the videos every week.”

Abby has interviewed many people, including BCI employees from the St. Peters and Lincoln County locations, as well as staff members from the St. Peters location. She said that if she could interview anyone in the world, she would interview Ellen DeGeneres.

“I can’t believe a year has gone by so fast,” said Abby. “I’m so glad the videos have become so successful, and I hope to continue making them and impacting more people in the future.”
