Disability Community Invited to Attend Skills Center Open House

Boone Center, Inc. will host a community open house at its new Skills Center on Wednesday, November 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Skills Center is a first-of-its-kind vocational training facility specifically for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“We are beyond excited to be gearing up for classes and finally be at a point where we can welcome the community to tour,” said Tony Spielberg, BCI CEO. “We hope that anyone who works within the disability community will come, meet the staff, and learn more.”

When the Skills Center begins classes in January, it will do so with 20 students and two vocations. The first vocation is Salesforce, which BCI chose as its first technical skills program because of the high demand of jobs in the region that require Salesforce certifications. Salesforce is the world’s #1 customer relationship management (CRM) platform.

The second vocation is commercial refrigeration final inspection and preparation with business partner, True Manufacturing of St. Peters. BCI chose True as its first manufacturing skills program because of the company’s longstanding partnership with BCI and its willingness to welcome people with intellectual and development disabilities into needed positions within its workforce.

Guests at the open house will also be introduced to the Skills Center’s newest staff members, Sandy Weitkamp, Benefits Case Manager, and Jeremy Sutton, Curriculum Manager.

Weitkamp comes to the Skills Center with 25 years of experience as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for St. Charles and St. Louis Counties. She has worked directly with Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare and Ticket to Work funding. Sandy is one of the leading disability benefits experts in the region and will serve as a community resource for others needing benefits analysis.

Sutton comes to BCI with 18 years of experience at Ranken Technical College where he directed several areas before being named Site Director for Ranken’s Wentzville location.

The Skills Center is located at 2026 Trade Center Drive, St. Peters, MO 63376. No advance registration is required for the Open House but RSVPs are appreciated.
