The following letter was emailed to all internal team contacts today. A paper version was also sent home with all Organizational employees.
Dear Employees, Parents, Guardians, and Support Staff,
Coronavirus/COVID-19 is everywhere in the news and is also a topic of conversation in our community. While there are still no confirmed cases in St. Charles County or Lincoln County, we want to update you on our planning and precautions.
Infectious disease control at BCI has always been a priority due to the large number of people we employ and the close proximity in which we work. We have rigorous cleaning procedures in place as our standard practice. Lunchrooms, break rooms, and restrooms are cleaned at least two times daily with disinfectant. Our cleaning crew disinfects common high-touch surfaces daily including light switches, vending machine buttons, doorknobs, refrigerator handles, etc.
Our employees are also trained on personal hygiene and proper handwashing technique once per year, with regular reminders to practice good handwashing, especially during cold and flu season.
Furthermore, the Employment Support Specialists (ESS) and Production Supervisors monitor all employees for illness. Employees who are ill are segregated under supervision until arrangements can be made to have them picked up.
We believe the threat of coronavirus requires extra diligence and precautions. This week at both facilities, we have/will:
Added more hand sanitizers.
Limited physical contact (i.e. high fives and handshakes).
Increased the number of times our cleaning crew is disinfecting common surfaces throughout each day.
Change to hospital grade disinfectant effective today.
Perform an electrostatic sanitizing spray throughout the buildings tomorrow.
In addition, we will hold a special all-team training on Thursday that will address coronavirus, the importance of handwashing and staying home when ill, and new personal contact boundaries.
What You Can Do
In order to reduce your risk, we encourage all BCI employees and staff and their families and caregivers to:
Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces.
Cover mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing; then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands.
Stay home if you have cold or flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath).
We are checking with local and federal authorities including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, St. Charles County Public Health Department, and the U.S. Department of Labor (OSHA) daily. We will follow their guidance to manage risk from possible exposure to coronavirus.
If we are advised by local health authorities to close, we will notify you through email, as well as the same channels we use to communicate snow closures (KSDK, KMOX, boonecenter.com, skillscenterSTL.com, Facebook). Please be sure your information is up-to-date in order to receive emails.
With our standard and extra infectious disease precautions in place, BCI is proceeding ahead, business as usual. However, we cannot emphasize enough— if your employee is not feeling well (fever, cough, shortness of breath), please keep them home.
We also understand that many of our employees live with challenged immune systems. If that is the case and you feel they need to stay home, please talk with your doctor.
If you have additional questions or concerns regarding attendance, please contact Jenn Braden at 636-875-5224 or firstname.lastname@example.org or the employee’s ESS. Our fax number is 636-978-4343.
Employee and staff safety is a priority at BCI. The threat presented by coronavirus is a dynamic situation. Please know that we will continue to monitor it and keep you updated.
